The most important eel species are; European Eel - Anguilla anguilla, American Eel - Anguilla rostrata, Japanese Eel - Anguilla japonica. Eels can live up to 20 years and they change their colors and shape many times during their lives. The colors of the eel represent the phases they go through. Although their reproduction environment is tried to be provided in laboratory conditions, the desired results haven’t been obtained. Therefore their population in Europe is gradually decreasing.
